Microsoft has officially launched a new Windows app designed to provide cross-platform access to Windows environments, with versions available for macOS, iOS, iPadOS, Android, and Windows PCs. The app was published in 2026, though the underlying launch reporting originates from September 2026.
The app functions as a central hub for streaming Windows from multiple sources, including Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, and Remote Desktop. Key features include a customizable home screen, multi-monitor support, and USB redirection — allowing users to connect local devices such as webcams, storage drives, and printers as though they were directly linked to a cloud PC.
The release follows nearly a year of testing. Users can download the app from the Microsoft Store on Windows, while macOS, iOS, and iPadOS versions are available through Apple’s App Store. The Android version entered public preview alongside the broader launch.
At present, the app is limited to Microsoft work and school accounts, targeting existing users of Remote Desktop clients. There are currently no indications that Microsoft plans to extend support to consumer accounts. The app is intended to facilitate a smoother transition for existing Remote Desktop users to the new platform.
Microsoft has offered remote access tools for years, including the Remote Desktop Connection tool that remains part of Windows 11. The company previously disclosed a long-term vision of moving Windows entirely to a cloud-based model, which it has said would support AI-powered services and give users greater flexibility.
For organizations relying on remote work infrastructure, the app’s ability to unify access across multiple devices and cloud services through a single interface may simplify deployment and day-to-day use.
