Google has introduced an innovative feature for Android XR that will convert 2D apps, websites, images, and videos into immersive 3D experiences on Samsung Galaxy XR headsets. Known as ‘auto-spatialization,’ this functionality was initially revealed last year and is now debuting as an experimental feature. The feature brings a new dimension to content consumption, enhancing user interactions within the XR environment.
While the auto-spatialization feature supports content up to 1080p at 30fps, Google notes that it may consume slightly more battery power and operates exclusively on the app window in focus. For users of Galaxy XR devices, this feature offers a new way to engage with digital content.
In addition to auto-spatialization, other Android XR updates are also being introduced for the Galaxy XR. Users can now pin apps to walls, see their real hands while interacting with virtual content in home space mode, and seamlessly resume previous activities after putting on the device. Google highlights the availability of over 100 apps on Google Play for XR, signifying a significant increase since the initial launch of Galaxy XR in October.
